FI/CO Troubleshooting and Database Recreation

October 1998 to March 1999
Troubleshooting in FI/CO and other modules to correct catastrophic problems in date fields, general trooubleshooting, reports and maintenance for a Mid-South electronics manufacturer.

Modules: FI/CO, FI, SD
Tools: ABAP tools, trace, debug, BDC, Call Transaction, external SQL database, Data Dictionary.

ABAP programmer on an emergency series of fixes to correct problems in SAP dates caused by bad maintenance.
A team of SAP consultants wrote a set of programs to adjust financial reporting dates due to a change in accounting years. Bugs in this code set financial and other dates throughout the system to be incorrect by plus or minus one year. Some of these errors were in database key fields. The entire system was down. Various parts of the system showed errors at intervals over a three month period. The main module affected were in the costing and valuation parts of FI/CO, but SD, PP and MM also had problems
The problems were analysed.
A series of one-off ABAP programs was written in short order to rebalance the system.
Additional work was done, including troubleshooting and QA for an external foreign trade system, troubleshooting, minor reports, addition of locking to existing custom programs, replacement of inappropriate direct-update custom programs with BDC loads, training of local programmers in recommended SAP maintenance procedures.
A very difficult, time-demanding project requiring delicate repairs to crucial system areas.
